A hybrid brewer invented by Alan Adler that combines immersion with pressure: coffee and water steep briefly in a narrow chamber, then a hand-driven plunger pushes the slurry through a paper or metal micro-filter in about 20 to 30 seconds. The short contact time and fine filtration yield a low-acid, concentrated cup that can be drunk neat or diluted.
Etymology
The name refers to the air pressure that drives the plunge, and the device was released in 2005 by Aerobie, the toy company founded by Stanford engineer Alan Adler, who also invented the Aerobie flying ring.
In use
Because one recipe finishes in under two minutes, it is the travel and desk brewer, so people say they will throw the AeroPress in a bag.
