A drink of espresso, steamed milk, and dense milk foam in roughly equal thirds, traditionally served in a 5-6 oz cup. It uses drier, stiffer foam than a latte, which makes the texture airier and the milk flavor more concentrated.
Etymology
Named after the Capuchin friars: the brown of coffee mixed with milk matched the color of their habits, and cappuccio means hood in Italian. A related drink called Kapuziner was already recorded in Viennese coffee houses in the 1800s.
In use
In Italy it is a morning drink, traditionally not ordered after a meal; elsewhere it is served all day, often in larger and wetter versions.
