Definition

The vessel that holds the paper or metal filter and the coffee bed during pour-over brewing. Its shape — cone, flat-bed or wedge — together with the number, depth and position of its ribs, sets how fast water drains and how thoroughly the bed saturates.

Etymology

From the verb drip. The cone form was popularized in Europe in the early 1900s by Melitta Bentz's paper-filter brewing system.

In use

Listed alongside filter size and dose in a pour-over recipe, as in a V60 dripper with an 01-size paper.
